Class 4

Welcome to our Class 4 page!

A visit from Magistrates in the Community

Class 4 went on trial at the end of January, with a visit from Magistrates in the Community and a fantastic workshop from two Magistrates. When we arrived, the classroom had been transformed into a courtroom, complete with witness box and a Royal coat of arms.

We found out about Magistrates' Courts in the local area and what a Magistrate does, a role that goes back 600 years. It was interesting to know that people who are found guilty are fined in proportion to what they earn, and how community service works.

We learnt about how a Magistrates' Court works and got the chance to enact a Magistrates' hearing. Three children acted as Magistrates for a cyber bulling case, with other members of the class playing the defendant, witnesses, Lawyers, and court staff. The court adjourned and the Magistrates discussed in private whether they thought the defendant was guilty or not guilty.

A really fun and interesting morning, with some great acting skills bringing the case to life!

World Religion Day 2023

For World Religion Day on Friday 13 January 2023, we found out about Sikh and Hindu temples. Some of the class made models of a Sikh Gurdwara and some drew Hindu Mandirs and shrines. Our Religious Education topic this term is Sikhism, so we discussed what you would find in Sikh places of worship and compared this to Hindu places of worship.
