Yesterday, Class 4 enjoyed an interactive workshop run by the Anne Frank Trust which celebrated International Persons with Disabilities Day 2023. The workshop was based around an interview with Doaa Shayea, a disability rights activist and a Para Powerlifter who will be representing Great Britain in the Paris Olympics, 2024.
We learned more about how a disability can be a physical or mental condition and that not all disabilities are visible. We developed our understanding of Neurodiversity and the barriers people experience in day-to-day life. We also found out about intersectionality and how everyone's experience can be unique.
Doaa spoke to us about ableism and disableism and we discussed how we can be an ally to someone with disabilities. Some of us will be sharing our learning with the rest of the school in an assembly later this week.
