Exploring nature for National Poetry Day

For National Poetry Day on 6 October 2022, Class 4 explored a fantastic text called The Lost Words, which contains poetry about nature. We delved into a number of different poems, before writing our own poems on a plant or animal of our choice. Everyone enjoyed searching for words and metaphors that could creatively describe the animal or plant we were writing about. Working in pairs to chat through our ideas, we created acrostic poems that illustrated different aspects of nature.

The following week, we illustrated our poems, using line drawing and watercolour paint in a similar style to the illustrations in the text. There were some fantastic designs and painting techniques, and everyone experimented with mixing the right colours for their animal or plant.

The finished poems and illustrations are very creative and will be on display in the Resources Area very soon!
