We are Chefs!

Wow – what great few weeks we’ve had in Class 4! It has been amazing to have our whole class back together again.  We have all worked hard during lockdown – whether we were learning at home or in school as part of the keyworker provision. Those of us in keyworker provision made the most of the opportunity to get to know the Denton Year 5s and 6s better and enjoyed making new friends. Still – it has been lovely for all of us to get back to our familiar routines and to see our whole class again.

As part of our Topic work, we have been looking at where our food comes from. We started this work during lockdown, focusing on sustainability and seasonality. It was great to come back into the classroom just in time for our practical work. We worked together to design a meal that was both seasonal and environmentally friendly. We came up with a chicken, leek and potato soup (vegetarians omitted the chicken) with an apple and berry crumble.  It was fantastic to have the opportunity to prepare and cook our own meals. While some of us were experienced cooks, many of us had never peeled a potato or chopped a leek. It was great to learn some practical life skills that we will be able to use to help prepare meals with our families. ‘Cooking is my favourite thing!’ said a Year 6 girl. While a Year 5 boy exclaimed, ‘My soup was so tasty!’
