Class 4

Welcome to our Class 4 page!

World Book Day 2023

Last week, we were joined in class by Fantastic Mr. Fox, the Demon Dentist, Willy Wonka, four Harry Potters and a Sirius Snape, to name a few.

Mrs Twit took the register and we celebrated World Book Day by delving into a book called The Wonder by Faye Hanson. We explored the text in more detail, creating some silhouette pictures experimenting with ink techniques. Our pictures were adorned with questions we wonder about, based on the text.

We enjoyed reading with some of the younger children in the school and discussing our costumes. In the afternoon, it was great to be able to welcome parents in to join in with some writing and the class created poems based on their questions.

A visit from Magistrates in the Community

Class 4 went on trial at the end of January, with a visit from Magistrates in the Community and a fantastic workshop from two Magistrates. When we arrived, the classroom had been transformed into a courtroom, complete with witness box and a Royal coat of arms.

We found out about Magistrates' Courts in the local area and what a Magistrate does, a role that goes back 600 years. It was interesting to know that people who are found guilty are fined in proportion to what they earn, and how community service works.

We learnt about how a Magistrates' Court works and got the chance to enact a Magistrates' hearing. Three children acted as Magistrates for a cyber bulling case, with other members of the class playing the defendant, witnesses, Lawyers, and court staff. The court adjourned and the Magistrates discussed in private whether they thought the defendant was guilty or not guilty.

A really fun and interesting morning, with some great acting skills bringing the case to life!
