Adventure at Rushden Lakes

While our classmates enjoyed themselves in Cornwall, those of us who remained at Yardley also had a brilliant week. We designed our own Greek vases, learned about the history of the ancient Olympics and had a fun-filled day out at Rushden Lakes.

Our day started with a trip to Rock Up climbing centre. A few of us had been climbing before, but it was completely new to some of us. We embraced the opportunity to try a new skill! Our climbing session lasted an hour and by the end of our time, everyone had grown in confidence. Some of us even felt brave enough to try the most challenging walls. We were so proud of one year 5 boy who tried a circular climb several times before he was able to do it. A great demonstration of determination and resilience!

After our picnic lunch, it was time for our session at the Nene Wetlands Visitor Centre. We were introduced to pond dipping. It was absolutely fascinating to see the wide variety of life that is just below the surface of the lake. As a group, we spotted water boatmen, water spiders, leeches, mites and many more.  Our time at the Wetlands Centre ended with a bug hunt. We were amazed at how many different insects we were able to collect. We were careful to put them back exactly where we found them!
