Welcome back!

Welcome back and Happy New Year! I hope you have all had a lovely break.

The children have all settled back into school really well and are enjoying starting their new topics. I was very impressed how many children could discuss their topic theme in my assembly yesterday. And how many are enjoying the ‘new’ topic teaching for that matter!

This term, as well as core curriculum and subject specific learning, we will continue to work with the children on their emotional well-being and resilience.

One of our key priorities in the school’s aims and intent is the development of children’s emotional security, resilience, empathy and self-confidence.  To this end, we will be working very closely with a Bedford based charity called ‘Mind Map’. This charity focuses on supporting children’s emotional development and wellbeing. At the end of this month, they will run workshops for all pupils. At our recent training day, they talked to all staff about strategies for promoting resilience and facilitating children communicating their feelings.

Following the initial workshops, we will fully launch the initiative at the beginning of February. This will involve all children being given the opportunity to communicate their emotions on daily basis in a very simple, non-verbal way. They will be taught to recognise positive and negative emotions and how to deal with them appropriately. All the teaching is, of course, tailored to the age and stage of the children. In addition to the teaching detailed above, all KS2 children, will receive coaching in resilience, how to develop ‘staying power’ and deal with emotional setbacks.

Before we start the programme, would like to invite all parents to a workshop led by ‘Mind Map’ in which we will explain the strategies we will be using in school and how you can help at home. You should have received a letter about this. Please let us know as soon as possible if you are able to attend. Don’t forget you can make use of our ‘bespoke’ crèche facilities if child care is an issue!

If you have any questions about any of the above, or anything else for that matter, please do not hesitate to drop me an email or call into the office.
