E Safety

I cannot believe how quickly this term is going! We have been very busy in all aspects of school life and the children (and adults!) are all working very hard. It was lovely to see so many of you at the RE assembly last Wednesday. The children really enjoyed the week and leant a huge amount. Have a look at the blogs on the class pages!

Earlier in the month Simon Aston, NCC Online Safety Officer, visited both schools to work with the children on different aspects of E-Safety and digital resilience.  The children enjoyed a successful and enlightening day as did the staff! The parent’s information evening was really well supported, thank you and I am sure we all learnt something new. Simon’s approach with children and adults alike was very much about acknowledging the huge online presence. He focussed on teaching children how to be discerning users and manage their exposure to social media and online gaming. The message is much less about parent controls and more about how we can support children in their use of the internet; talking to them about their gaming and interests, enforcing digital free bedrooms and insisting on breaks from technology especially before bed is all very good advice.

I will be emailing home two information sheets – ‘Online safety within the home’ and ‘Online Gaming – An introduction for parents and carers’. These will be added to the Recent Letters section of the website. Below are links to some useful websites

If you attended the parental information evening, I would be grateful if you could give us some feedback using the letter we have sent home; if it is easier, by all means email.
